May 24, 2001

As a result of the NJC Executive Committee's decision to revoke the October 16, 2000, Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive (IPGHD) last December, the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Committee was mandated to review that Directive, limiting itself to the following identified areas of concern:

  • the new rent table;
  • the 100% "cap" on the Living Cost Differential for employee couples;
  • the Vacation Travel Assistance provisions;
  • the Shelter Cost Differential for Iqaluit;
  • the phase-out of the Special Accommodation Allowance in Yellowknife.

In January 2001, all interested parties were invited to make representations on the issues of concern by way of a written submission.

At this point in time, discussions are on-going with regard to these items. It is expected, however, that the Committee will have completed its review by the fall.

Consequently, the Living Accommodation Charges Directive (LACD) as well as the Isolated Posts Directive (effective April 2, 1991) continue to apply.
