POLICY NOTICE

Foreign Service Directives

In order to comply with the Treasury Board Policy, Common Look and Feel 2.0 Standards and Guidelines http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/clf2-nsi2/index-eng.asp, the Foreign Service Directives have been reformatted to bring the Directives into line with other National Joint Council Directives, to ensure accessibility to the visually impaired, and to enhance user-friendliness to all employees.

In no circumstances have the substantive sections of the Directives been modified, as this reformatting did not form part of cyclical review. While the directive number has remained unchanged, each directive has simply been reordered with the addition of titles and renumbered sections and subsections.

Throughout the Directives, when dollar amounts are subject to change on a regular basis, these amounts will be contained in an appendix to the directive. Formulas which were contained in the text of a directive, for example the formula to determine the amount payable on early termination of posting, will also be found in an appendix following the applicable directive.

It should also be noted that "post" and "mission" are no longer interchangeable; "mission" means an office of a department outside Canada and "post" means a city, community or other geographic locality in which a "mission" is located.

The implementation date of the reformatted directives is February 1, 2012. Invitations have been sent to all Department/Agency Liaison Officers and Bargaining Agent Presidents regarding an information session on the reformatted Directives which is scheduled to take place
January 18, 2012.

Please note that all forms on the National Joint Council website are in the process of being updated to comply with the above stated policy and to reflect the renumbering of the Directive. A link to all forms, listed at the end of each directive, will be developed at a later date.
