The grievors reimbursement for the cost of repair to a car damaged enroute to Canada.
The grievor had purchased a PMV while assigned to a Canadian Embassy, and on reassignment to Ottawa, made arrangements for the department to ship the car to Canada. The car was damaged enroute and required extensive repairs, the cost of which was said to exceed by a substantial amount the total value of the transit insurance policy taken out on the car by post administration.
The Administrative Committee considered and agreed with the report of the Foreign Service Directives Committee in that the $12,000 insurance placed on the PMV had been appropriate, and that there was no credible evidence that the vehicle should have been insured at a greater value. The Administrative Committee further agreed with the report in that since the grievor had never filed a claim with the insurance company, he did not have grounds on which to argue persuasively that the insurer would not accept liability.
The Administrative Committee further agreed with the report of the Foreign Service Directives Committee in that the grievor had been treated within the intent of the directives.
The grievance was denied.
