21.4.784, 21.4.785
The Executive Committee considered a grievance with regard to Child Care expenses.
The employee grieved management's decision to deny and reduce her claims for child care expenses.
In 21.4.784, the grievor had to report to her regular workplace on November 2, 1998 at 6:45 a.m. in order to depart on government business for a one-day trip. Management denied child care benefits for the night of November 1, 1998 as she was not absent on government business on the night of November 1, 1998.
In 21.4.785, the grievor returned home at 7:12 p.m. on June 23, 1999 from a two-day trip on government business. Management reimbursed child care benefits for the night of June 22, 1999 but denied benefits for the night of June 23, 1999 because she was not absent on government business on the night of June 23, 1999.
The Executive Committee agreed that, given the special circumstances of this case, the employee was not treated within the intent of Section 1.1.2 of the Travel Directive.
The grievance was upheld.
