The Executive Committee considered a grievance with regard to mid-shift meal allowance.
The employee grieved management's decision to reduce his travel claim from a dinner allowance to a lunch allowance based on previous adjudication decisions #166-2-18936 to 18943 and 166-2-18944 to 18948.
The Bargaining Agent representative maintained that under the Travel Directive, an employee is entitled to a meal allowance for every breakfast, lunch and dinner that he or she has when travelling. He further stated that the Travel Directive does not indicate at what time meals are eaten.
The NJC Executive Committee agreed that, based on previous decisions, the grievor was treated within the intent of the Government Travel Directive in that the appropriate mid-shift meal rate is the luncheon allowance for employees who work non standard (shift work) hours and are on travel status over the mid point of their shift.
The grievance was denied.
