The employee sought reimbursement of a recovery action taken by the department.

Upon posting abroad the employee stored a MGB and shipped a motorcycle with personal effects. Subsequent to arrival at post the employee applied for the reimbursement of costs involved in the shipment of a Mercedes-Benz from Germany to the post abroad. The post administration approved the expenses; however following a review at headquarters it was determined that the claim had been paid in error as a PMV (motorcycle) had already been shipped.

The Administrative Committee considered the report of the Foreign Service Directives Committee and noted that the Committee could not reach a consensus.

The Administrative Committee agreed, given the circumstances of this case, that payment for the shipment of the Mercedes should be made. However, the cost of storage of the MGB should not be paid.

To the extent that the above satisfies the corrective action sought the grievance was upheld.
