The grievors sought the issuance of safety footwear on an infrequent oasis. The employees, as part of their regular duties, work on third part y premises where employees are required to wear safety footwear.
The Administrative Committee considered and agreed with the report of the Occupational Health, Safety and Physical Working Conditions Committee that pursuant to the Administrative Policy Manual, Chapter 260, paragraph .4.1.4, the two positions at La Baie have not been identified by the department as requiring safety footwear and involve work at a company that is associated with the employees' regular duties, thus precluding issuance of safety footwear on a loan basis.
The grievance was denied.
The Administrative Committee also agreed with the recommendation of the Occupational Health, Safety and Physical IV or king Conditions Commit tee that the matter of safety footwear requirements, for the employees had not been addressed and recommended that the department investigate the need for safety shoes or boots pursuant to paragraph 3 of the Personnel Protective Equipment Safety Standard, TB 5TO 3-14. In this regard, paragraph 9 of the Standard should be observed in respect of third party premises where the intent is to honour protective clothing/equipment requirements established at such locations. In addition, it was agreed that the departmental review should involve the joint safety and health committee as required by the Administrative Policy Manual, Chapter 260.
